Where to stay near Mount Field

Commercial stays sit in National Park township, then Maydena, Westerway, New Norfolk and Hobart. Official camping and huts: Parks Tasmania — Mount Field camping · Government Huts.

Choose a base by intent

Last supermarket and fuel belong in New Norfolk for most Hobart approaches. Official camping and Government Huts are Parks Tasmania products — never this site’s affiliate.

  • Closest to the icon: National Park township, then the Tyenna campground (first-come, separate fee + Parks Pass).
  • Early Tarn Shelf start: overnight locally so you are not leaving Hobart before dawn. Phone option 3 before you climb.
  • Families / services: New Norfolk has more food and a pharmacy/GP scale; Hobart is the hospital catch.
  • No public transport: a booked tour can replace the drive, not the Parks Pass or the road report.

Tours around your stay

Optional guided Russell Falls days from Hobart after you have chosen a base. Packing kit lives on the gear list. Official camping and hut bookings are never affiliated.

Guided tours

Optional — useful for first visits from Hobart without wanting to drive the Derwent Valley

A tour does not replace checking Parks Tasmania alerts, weather, or cliff safety yourself.
